South African golf courses - Selborne Golf Course
(These golf courses are some of the many golf courses in South Africa at which you will be entitled to play at affilliated rates when you join THE GOLF CLUB)
Selborne
is set in the rolling hills of Kwazulu-Natal's South Coast. It is build
on land that used to be a thriving dairy farm. When the owner Denis Barker
decided to turn the farm into a golf estate he initially consulted a golf
architect but eventually decided to design the course on his own. Completed
in 1987 the course has matured to be one of South Africa's most attractive
courses.
Water comes into play on just about every hole of the 18-hole par 72 Selborne
golf course. One of the signature holes of the course is the par four
18th hole. The
hole measures 271 meters from the back markers to the flagstick. It is
best negotiated with nothing more than a mid-iron from the tee to avoid
its hazards. This hole is a good example of Barker's non-conformative
design. Huge indigenous trees flanking fairways and the backdrop of the
Indian Ocean makes for a very picturesque course.
