Golfing Terminology starting with "Y"
The yips: A tendency to twitch during the putting stroke.
Some top golfers have had their careers greatly affected or even destroyed
by the yips; prominent golfers who battled with the yips for much of their
careers include Sam Snead, Ben Hogan, and, more recently, Bernhard Langer.
A condition, generally believed to be psychological, which causes a player
to lose control of his hands and club. In Great Britain, the condition
is referred to as the "Twitchies." This generally occurs when
putting or in the short game, but it can also afflict people when hitting
a tee shot.
Yardage: The range of distances a given club is rated
for.
Yardage Rating: The stroke index of a given hole, 18
being the easiest and 1 the most difficult.
