South African golf courses - Glendower Golf Course
(These golf courses are some of the many golf courses in South Africa at which you will be entitled to play at affilliated rates when you join THE GOLF CLUB)
Designed
by Charles Hugh Alison, one of England's most respected golf architects
after the Second World War, the course was opened in 1937. Glendower was
proclaimed a nature reserve in 1973 due to its lush vegetation and varied
bird life.
The course is set against tree-covered slopes and has immaculately kept
kikuyu covered fairways featuring numerous hazards and leading to excellent
greens. It has 85 bunkers and water comes into play on eleven of the holes.
The
outward loop offers one of the best nine hole stretches imaginable with
the aesthetically pleasing 508 meter 2nd hole as one of the best par 5's
in the country. It requires an accurate tee shot to a fairway flanked
by trouble left and right and a recently placed water hazard left of the
green.
